Weekend Boost No. 158
LEADING THROUGH IMAGINATION
In times of uncertainty, imagination isn’t a luxury — it’s a leadership practice. When we allow ourselves (and our teams) to imagine boldly, we create space for new possibilities to take root. Here are three resources and one practice to stretch your imaginative muscles this weekend:
We Need Imagination More Than Ever (Harvard Business Review)
Approaches for building your capacity and the capacity of others to imagine- especially during a crisis.Emergent Strategy by adrienne maree brown A practical and poetic guide to leading with imagination, adaptation, and collective creativity.
Reimagining the Future —The Three Horizons Framework by Bill Sharpe Sharpe introduces the Three Horizons framework — a way of seeing today’s systems (Horizon 1), emerging innovations (Horizon 2), and transformative futures (Horizon 3).
THE PRACTICE
A Three Horizons Reflection
Take 15 minutes with a notebook and reflect on the following:
Horizon 1 (right now): What in your current work/life feels outdated, unsustainable, or no longer aligned?
Horizon 3 (distant future): If you imagined a thriving future, what would it look and feel like?
Horizon 2 (near future): What experiments or innovations are bubbling up that could shift things?
Identify one small step you can take next week that moves you closer to Horizon 3.
Imagination is not escapism. It’s leadership — and it’s how we make the impossible possible.
