THE LESSONS THAT KEEP KNOCKING
Lately, I’ve noticed that in my coaching work and conversations with leaders, the same themes keep surfacing again and again. They show up in different forms and different contexts, but they carry familiar questions and challenges.
This week, I want to share three of those themes—along with a resource for each that might help you reflect, reframe, or take action.
Breaking up with unhelpful patterns: Why is it so hard to let go of thought patterns, mindsets, or behaviors that no longer serve us? Even when we know they’re unhelpful, the pull of the familiar is strong. Internal Family Systems (IFS) offers a compassionate lens for understanding the “parts” of ourselves that hold on, and how we can begin to release them. I’m entrenched in this workbook- which is a great guide in doing this type of self-inquiry.
Being strategic in uncertain times: How do we lead when nothing feels stable? The practice of strategy in moments of uncertainty requires us to stay flexible, connected, and imaginative. adrienne maree brown’s Emergent Strategy is a powerful guide for learning to align our actions with the constantly shifting patterns around us. Here’s a great overview.
Having tough conversations: One of the hardest parts of leadership is telling someone else how to do something—especially when managing others. It’s vulnerable, it’s uncomfortable, and it matters deeply for how we build trust and accountability. This episode of The Leadership Backpack offers practical guidance on finding your voice in those moments. You can watch the episode here.
THE PRACTICE
Sometimes the lessons we need don’t change—they deepen. Which of these themes resonates with you most right now?
